Fadhail of Azaan

  1. Hazrat Mua’wiya narrates that he heard from the Prophet, on Day of Judgement, those people who used to say Azaan, will have their heads raised high. (Muslim, Ahmad and Ibn Maja)

 

  1. Abu Huraira narrates, that wherever the sound of the Azaan reaches, it waives off his (Muazzin) sins and whosoever hears its voice, confirms its authenticity. (Ahmad)

 

  1. Abu Huraira narrates that when the Azaan is called, the shaitaan screams and runs away so far to an extent where the sound of azaan would not reach him. Once the azaan is over, he then returns and when the Iqaamah is read he then runs away and returns upon its completion. He then begins to instill misconception in peoples’ minds, i.e. tries to remind the one in the prayer about pointless issues that do not exist to an extent where the one who is praying forgets what Rak’at he/ she is reading. (Bukhari and Muslim)

 

  1. Abu Saeed narrates that if people knew the reward of calling Azaan, they would fight with swords. (Ahmad)

 

  1. Thu’ban narrates that, if one who calls Azaan consistently for one year then Paradise becomes compulsory (Waajib) upon him. (Baihaqi)

 

  1. Abu Hurairah narrates that no one should call the azaan, save he is in the state of ablution (wudhu). (Tirmidhi)

 

  1. Ka’ab bin Ujra (ra) narrates that he heard from the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) saying that when you hear the Azaan then reply to the caller of Allah (Mua’zzin) i.e. do Ijaabat. (Tabrani, Kabeer)

 

  1. Ibn Asakir narrates that he heard from the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) that Oh Ladies! When you hear Bilal (ra) calling the Azaan and Iqaamah then repeat what he (Bilal) says because Allah will reward you by 100,000 virtues in return to every word uttered, and will increase you in rank 1, 000 times and will waive 1, 000 sins. The ladies asked Prophet (pbuh) that this reward is for women, how about the men? The Prophet replied: For men it is double.

 

  1. Jaabir (ra) narrates that the Holy Prophet (saw) said whosoever listens to the call to prayer and then reads the following du’a: “Allahumma rabba hazihi d’awa-tittaamma…….“, my intercession becomes compulsory for that individual. (Bukhari, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi, Nis’ai, Ibn Maja and Ahmad).
